Nominations are open to all businesses within the Shire of Kalamunda. Any person or business may nominate a business for the awards. Businesses must be a paid up member of the chamber to be eligible for an award or pay an entry fee of $110 with their submission.

About the Business Awards
The Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce recognises success, exceptional skills and innovation within the shire of Kalamunda business community. We believe the standard in which our community operates is unique and would like to instil confidence and awareness within our community.
The Business Excellence Awards evening is the premier event on the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce business calendar with business and business leaders being recognised for their outstanding achievements throughout the year. This year's presentation will be glamorous, with a Formal Gala Dinner being held on Saturday 13 November 2010 at the Lesmurdie Club, Boronia Room.
I encourage all businesses to nominate in their specific categories.

Criteria
The Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce annually recognises businesses and/or individuals for outstanding achievement.
Nominations are open to all businesses that have been operating within the Shire of Kalamunda boundaries for at least 12 months.
Fully paid up financial members of the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce will not incur a nomination fee.
Non-members of the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce will incur a nomination fee of $110 inclusive of GST.
Judges of the 2011 Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards entries are ineligible to enter.
Not-for-profit organisations are eligible to enter. These organisations will be judged according to innovative achievements and funds generated.

You may be a sole trader, recognised business partnership, legally constitute business, company, business person, incorporated body or a department or division of any business enterprise.
Completed nomination forms must be returned no later than 15 August 2011.
Entrants may participate in multiple award categories; however, a separate submission must be submitted for each award category.
Judging
A diverse panel of business professionals will make up the judging panel.
The judges will be bound by a strict confidentiality agreement and will be required to declare any conflict of interest in entries over which they deliberate and to stand aside from deliberations concerning those entries.
The judges will use a checklist with which to assess short listed businesses or individuals based on the businesess submission. It will include the following items:
There is strong evidence that the business has a plan for growth, development and/or sale that guides its daily operations.
The business is sustainable and competitive
The business demonstrates features that make it stand out from other similar businesses.
The business clearly know its customers and targets them appropriately
The premises are kept orderly, clean, safe, attractively presented and compliant with all relevant legislation
Evaluation Process
The judging process will be conducted in two stages. An initial assessment of all submissions will be completed in the first stage leading to a shortlist, followed by a second evaluation in the final stage.
At the end of the final stage of the evaluation process, the judges will select the winners for each of the Award categories, totals will be combined and overall category winners will be decided.
Winners and Accolades
All winners will be announced at the 2011 Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards Gala Dinner, to be held on Saturday 12 November 2009 at the Lesmurdie Club Boronia Room. Tickets will be on sale from Mid October.
Award recipients will be honoured with a wall plaque and digital award logo (for use on website/email). Followed by publicity coverage in the local media.
Entry Submissions
Submissions should outline the reasons why your business, organisation or individual deserves to be recognised with a Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce Business Award, highlighting any relevant, unique or outstanding characteristics based on the key criteria for the Award category entered.
All nominated businesses will be sent a letter outlining the requirements for each category including questions specific to the nominated category. We encourage all nominated busineses to prepare a detailed submission as the majority of judging is based on the prepared submission.
Rules of Entry for Submissions
Indicate clearly the category you wish to enter, you may enter more than more category. You are encouraged to enter the category that best reflects your core business. If entering more than one category, then a separate and complete submission must be submitted for each category.
Achievements within your category must relate to the qualifying period 1 July 2010 to 15 August 2011 inclusive.
The judging panel reserves the right to transfer an entry into another category if it is considered more appropriate without the right of the applicant.

by the specified date. PLEASE NOTE: PAPER COPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED UNLESS BY PRIOR AGREEMENT, please contact Lisa Harrap to make arrangements if an electronic copy is not able to be produced.
Submission may not be more than 15 pages in length including photos.
The judging panel may decide not to award where entries do not meet an appropriate standard of excellence.
The judging panel's decisions are final and no discussions or correspondence will be entered into.
Those applications judged to be ineligible will be notified prior to the presentation of the Awards.
Submissions must be received no later than the date specified in the letter sent to all nominated businesses.
Supporting Information is based on the following criteria:-
Business Profile (maximum length 100 words)
You are asked to include a short biography of the business. The business profile will be used to provide judges with background information about your business and will be included in the award programme and subsequent media insert if your business is selected as an award finalist.
Letters of Support
Nominators/nominees can provide a maximum of three letters in direct support of the nomination.
Finalist Notification
Once the finalists have been determined, notification will be sent to all nominees under consideration to advise them of their award status. Finalists will be asked to provide a copy of their company logo in either a tif, jpg or scanned format.
Indicate clearly the category you wish to enter, you may enter more than one category;
Entrants may receive an award in one category only. If the entrant is a finalist in more than one category, the submission will stand in the category where the judging panel deems the business is strongest.
A separate award submission package must be submitted for each award category in which the nominee is to be considered.
All award submission packages will be reviewed for completeness.

2011 Business Excellence Award Categories
Micro Business of the Year (1-4 employees)
Honours a business that has achieved outstanding business performance, quality personalised service to customers and clients and business distinctiveness.
Small Business of the Year (5-20 employees)
This award recognises the crucial role small business plays in the economy and as an employment generator. This award honours a business that has demonstrated continual business excellence through positive business growth; exemplified superior customer service and embraced an outstanding commitment to quality.
Medium/Large Business of the Year (more than 20 employees)
To acknowledge a business in the corporate sector for their economic contribution to the community.
Outstanding Customer Service
To recognise a business of any size demonstrating exceptional customer service. Nominations may come from happy customers who feel they have received exceptional service, good client follow up and courtesy from a business.
Staff Training and Development
To recognise a business that has been proactive in creating training and skill enhancement opportunities for employees; provided a positive role model for others through the provision of training for employees and demonstrated an outstanding commitment to employee quality.
Dining Establishment of the Year
To acknowledge a business which has proved to provide customers with a quality dining experience, encompasing; good food, quality service, value for money and a comfortable atmosphere.
Retail Business of the Year
To recognise a local retail business that demonstrates the art of retail sales, including; product placement and displays, demonstration, customer service, window displays and creative self promotion.
Outstanding Tourism Business
This award recognises a business that provides the best tourism offer (accommodation/ attraction/tours/winery/other) within the Shire of Kalamunda. Business must be able to prove they are a tourim related business.
Kalamunda Farmers Market - Best Stallholder
This award recognises the most popular stallholder at the Kalamunda Farmers Market (Sunday Market) as voted for by the customers.
President's Award
The President's Award is presented by the current President, Rob Bentley. No nominations are required for this Award as the winner is chosen from the business community whether nominated in another category or not. This award is open to both businesses who are current members of the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce as well as to non members.
