With the start of a new year and a new decade, I would like to welcome our new members to KCC and thank our existing members for their ongoing and valued support.

Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit organisation and your committee is made up entirely of volunteer members who are passionate about supporting and promoting business in the City of Kalamunda.

In addition to our Committee we also welcome our new part-time Manager, Judy Houlahan. Judy’s family history goes back many generations in Kalamunda and she brings strong operational and administrative skills from her years working here and overseas. She is also involved in a number of other community activities. There were some huge staff and committee shoes to fill at the close of 2019 and I’m confident that the current team will continue to effectively promote the Chamber’s objectives. The Chamber’s ability to effectively deliver its programs and remain relevant to the Kalamunda Business Community is largely dependent upon the effective time that our staff and volunteers are able to give.

Looking ahead

With this new team in place, I feel optimistic about the year ahead and confident we can bring our members together as a strong community to support one another in the City we call home. Apart from the material benefits of membership I am strongly of the view that businesses will benefit from cooperation and a growing sense of community. Knowing your local businesses, their owners, employees and their respective stories encourages a sense of respect and a desire to transact locally.

This is the business culture that the Chamber would like to encourage.

This year, we are reviewing many of our systems and procedures to become more efficient and streamlined. We are also keen to reach out further to new members from all areas within our City boundaries from High Wycombe and Forrestfield in the West, to Bickley and Pickering Brook in the East, through to the boundaries of Perth Airport and the new Forrestfield Airport Link.

With a population of close to 60,000, The City of Kalamunda offers a diverse range of businesses from industrial to tourism, and retail to rural. My aim is for us all to work closer together and maximise our business opportunities.

To add to this, we are busy re-evaluating some of our existing events, such as our workshops, sundowners, Business Excellence Awards and Young Entrepreneurs Program, as well as reviewing strategy, memberships and sponsorships.

There are some exciting initiatives in the pipeline, and I will share those with you in the months to come as they unfold. Proudly bringing you the KCC Kalamunda Farmers Market, Night Markets and Bickley Harvest Festival

Our markets have become a showcase for KCC and provide an opportunity to sell directly to the consumer, as well as providing fresh produce, entertainment, music, artisan crafts and delicious food for local families, and visitors to our City.

Our Farmers Market runs every Sunday 8am-12pm, in Central Mall. Our Night Markets run from September to April usually from 6-9pm on every third Friday of the month. Finally, the ever-popular Bickley Harvest Festival will again be held on 2-3 May this year along the beautiful Bickley and Carmel wine trails to celebrate the Harvest.

If you would like to know more about participating in the KCC markets/festival, please contact the relevant manager whose contact details are set out below.

Working closely with our Platinum Sponsor Along with the KCC Committee, I am personally most thankful for the close and valuable relationship we share with the City of Kalamunda and appreciate their generous support of our members and the Chamber.

In 2020 we hope to strengthen this working relationship as we work towards common strategic goals.
